Seattle, WA – October 17, 2024 – Dr. Daniela Braga, Founder and CEO of Defined.ai, the world’s largest Ethical AI Data Marketplace, addressed a global audience at the United Nations FAO Science and Innovation Forum (SIF 2024) via hologram. This high-profile event, held in Rome, alongside global policymakers, scientists, and agrifood experts advanced dialogue on inclusive science and innovation.
In the session titled ‘Inclusive AI to Drive Agrifood Systems Transformation,’ Dr. Braga highlighted AI’s potential to revolutionize agriculture, emphasizing the critical need for inclusive and ethical applications. She underscored the need for equitable AI implementation, warning, “Agriculture is a global matter, and it should be a global concern. So is AI and its impact in agriculture.”
Following the interventions, Dr. Braga and QU Dongyu, Director-General of FAO; Carol Zavaleta-Cortijo, Co-Chair of the Indigenous Peoples Observatory Network; Eric Salobir, President of the Human Technology Foundation; and Greet Maenhout of the European Commission, debated the topic in a panel discussion, moderated by Dan Newman, Director of Matter Group. Dr. Braga engaged with her peers remotely via hologram, exemplifying the power of technology to transcend borders.
“AI holds immense potential to transform agrifood systems, but it must be governed responsibly and inclusively to truly benefit all. Good governance is key to ensuring that AI bridges the gender divide, empowers marginalized communities, and fosters prosperity for everyone—leaving no one behind,” stated Vincent Martin, FAO Director of Innovation.
The FAO Science and Innovation Forum 2024, themed “Inclusive Science and Innovation for Agrifood Systems Transformation, Leaving No One Behind,” took place in Rome from the 14th to the 18th of October, and served as a global stage for leaders to explore solutions to urgent challenges like food insecurity, sustainable farming, and agricultural productivity.
